As a full service Fire and Rescue department, Wauwatosa is committed to excellence in every aspect of fire and life safety. All firefighters are trained in both fire suppression and emergency medical response. As a minimum requirement, all personnel must maintain State of Wisconsin certification as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and more than half have gone on to obtain the higher certification of Paramedic.
The Wauwatosa Fire Department serves a population of 48,000 residents and protects 13 square miles. The fire department has 3 fire stations strategically located throughout the city, we have 3 fire engines, 2 ladder trucks, 2 paramedic units and a Battalion Car on duty 24 hours a day. We currently have 31 personnel a day with 93 suppression personnel, 7 staff chiefs, 2 office personnel, 2 inspectors and 1 mechanics totaling 106 personnel.
We currently supply our citizens and surrounding communities with fire suppression, paramedic response and transport, rope rescue, hazmat level B, and a fire training academy. The department has an aggressive fire and emergency medical training program that maintains the highest level of expertise and customer service to our citizens.
Risk Management Statement
- We will begin our response on the assumption that we can protect lives and property.
- We will risk our lives a lot, if necessary, to protect savable lives.
- We will risk our lives a little, and in a calculated manner, to protect savable property.
- We will not risk our lives at all to protect lives or properties that are already lost.
