Overview
In 1995, the City of Wauwatosa created the Historic Preservation Commission to promote preservation of the many historic places in Wauwatosa. Our responsibilities include:
- Designating historic properties, sites, and districts.
- Serving as a design review board for locally designated historic properties.
- Providing historic preservation education.

Preservation of Properties (PoP) Awards
To honor Historic Preservation month, the recipients of the annual Historic Preservation Commission PoP (Preservation of Properties) award were announced at the May 19 Common Council meeting. The awards were presented to Elizabeth and Joseph Loebl for a front entrance restoration at 137 N. 87th Street, and to Alair Homes Milwaukee/the Malugades (property owners), for a rear addition to 1926 Church Street. POP Awards honor exterior improvements to residential, commercial, and public property in the City of Wauwatosa. The nominated property must be at least 50 years old and the improvements must have been completed with five years prior to the date of nomination. This is your chance to recognize and express appreciation to people who take care of their property and who make your neighborhood a good place to live.
