There is no regular overnight parking in Wauwatosa. Vehicles may not be parked on any street, or municipal parking lot, between 3:00 am and 6:00 am, including holidays and weekends.
You can request overnight parking permission online. Requests for permission are not accepted after 3:00 am on the date the vehicle(s) will be parked on the street.
Overnight Parking Permission is limited to:
- Guests
- Stalled vehicles
- Vehicles affected by a construction project which makes off street parking impossible
Permissions are limited to fifteen (15) nights per vehicle, per year.

Drop Box
A 24-hour drop box is located outside the front lobby of the Wauwatosa Police Department, however, no receipt is available for drop box payments.
Contest a Citation
To contest a parking citation, visit wauwatosawi.rmcpay.com.
You must start the appeal process within 28 days of receiving a parking citation. The fee schedule will be frozen at the time of the appeal and the citation will not accrue added fees during the appeal process.
Police Department staff will review the appeal within 30 days of receiving the appeal and determine if the appeal is granted or denied.
If the appeal is denied by Police Department staff, you may request an appearance in Municipal Court to meet with the City Prosecutor at the next municipal court date.
The citation will be considered by the City Prosecutor and ultimately decided by the Municipal Judge in accordance to their procedures.
While a parking citation is being reviewed by the Police Department or an appeal is pending before the Municipal Court, the vehicle registration will not be suspended.
You may park in one of our public parking lots when visiting our community.
Snow Emergency
During the time frame of a declared Snow Emergency, you may not park on any street. You will not receive overnight parking permission and the police department will declare all existing parking permissions null and void.
We are committed to providing fair and balanced parking solutions throughout the City. Parking demands near businesses and public buildings can often times strain on street parking opportunities in the neighborhoods surrounding them. The City’s goal is to provide on street parking opportunities for residents and business patrons while respecting the varied needs and desires of the City’s neighborhoods.
Various parking solutions have been implemented across the City with parking restrictions being the most common. If you would like to request modifications to parking restrictions in your neighborhood please call the Department of Public Works, (414) 471-8422.
We have an optional curb painting program for driveway approaches. Property owners can request that the curbs at the entrance of a driveway be painted at their expense to help reduce the likelihood that a vehicle will park within this area. Current City ordinance requires that no vehicle park within four feet of the entrance to an alley or a private road or driveway.
Guidelines for curb painting:
- The curb will be power washed and painted with yellow epoxy paint on both sides of a drive approach.
- Apply by April 30 in a given year for the painting to occur in the year the application is received. We will make every attempt to paint curbs if we receive the application after April 30.
- The program fee includes one paint application only. If the paint fades, wears, or chips away, and you wish to have the curb painted again, you will have to submit a new application and fee.
- Property owners are not allowed to self-perform paint application to any public infrastructure including curbs.
